Ingredients
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1.5 lbs fresh or pre-cooked sausages (Italian, bratwurst, or your favorite)
- 1 medium onion, finely diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1.5 cups ketchup
- 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp smoked paprika
- 1 tsp Dijon mustard
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
Instructions
- 1. Brown the Sausages: Heat olive oil in a large oven-safe skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add sausages and brown on all sides for 5-7 minutes. Remove and set aside.
- 2. Sauté Aromatics: Reduce heat to medium. Add diced onion to the skillet and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
- 3. Simmer the Sauce: Stir in ketchup, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, Dijon mustard, salt, and pepper. Bring to a gentle simmer and cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until flavors meld and sauce slightly thickens.
- 4. Bake Covered: Return browned sausages to the skillet, nestling them into the sauce. Cover and bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 20-25 minutes.
- 5. Glaze Uncovered: Remove cover, increase oven temperature to 400°F (200°C). Bake for another 10-15 minutes, basting occasionally, until the sauce is reduced, sticky, and caramelized. Serve hot.
