Ingredients
- 1 (32 oz) bag frozen tater tots
- 1 tbsp olive oil or cooking spray
- 1.5 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1 cup shredded low-moisture mozzarella cheese
- 0.5 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 0.5 tsp smoked paprika
- 1–2 tbsp milk or light cream
- Optional Add-ins: 0.5 cup cooked, crumbled bacon; 2 tbsp finely diced jalapeños (fresh or pickled); 2 tbsp fresh chopped chives for garnish
Instructions
- Step 1: Preheat Oven & Prep Tots. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Arrange frozen tater tots in a single layer on a large baking sheet. Toss lightly with olive oil or cooking spray. Bake for 15-20 minutes until lightly golden and firm.
- Step 2: Prepare Cheesy Magic. While tots bake, combine cheddar, mozzarella, Monterey Jack cheeses, garlic powder, onion powder, and smoked paprika in a bowl. Toss until spices are evenly distributed. Add 1-2 tablespoons of milk or cream and mix gently until the cheese is lightly coated. Stir in any optional add-ins like bacon or jalapeños.
- Step 3: Build Gooey Layers. Remove partially baked tots from the oven. Evenly sprinkle half of the seasoned cheese mixture over the tots. Gently toss to distribute the cheese around all the tots.
- Step 4: Bake & Broil to Perfection. Return the baking sheet to the oven and bake for another 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is completely melted, bubbly, and golden.
