Heart Shaped Chocolate Chip Cookies

  • Total Time: 44 minute
  • Yield: 24 cookies (depending on cutter size)

Description

These delightful heart-shaped chocolate chip cookies are perfectly chewy, crisp-edged, and bursting with rich chocolate flavor. They’re a sweet way to share your love, ideal for any special occasion or just a comforting treat.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup packed light brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon espresso powder (optional, but recommended!)
  • 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 ½ cups semi-sweet chocolate chips (or a mix of your favorite chocolates)

Instructions

  • Step 1: Cream Butter and Sugars: In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy (2-3 minutes).
  • Step 2: Add Eggs and Vanilla: Beat in eggs one at a time, mixing well after each. Stir in vanilla extract and espresso powder until combined.
  • Step 3: Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined.
  • Step 4: Fold in Chocolate: Gently fold in the chocolate chips with a spatula.
  • Step 5: Chill Dough: Cover and refrigerate dough for at least 30 minutes, or up to 24 hours. This is crucial for shape.
  • Step 6: Shape and Bake: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll out chilled dough to ¼-inch thickness on a lightly floured surface. Cut out heart shapes with a cookie cutter and place on parchment-lined baking sheets.
  • Step 7: Bake to Perfection: Bake for 9-12 minutes, until edges are golden and centers are slightly soft. Cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
