Ingredients
- 1 lb fresh pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
- 1/2 lb hot Italian sausage, removed from casing
- 1/2 cup tomato sauce (simple, robust)
- 1/2 cup shredded low-moisture mozzarella cheese (optional)
- 4 oz crumbled feta cheese
- 2–3 tbsp honey, for drizzling
- 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves, torn
- All-purpose flour or semolina, for dusting
Instructions
- Preheat Oven & Prep Sausage: Place a pizza stone or steel in your oven and preheat to its highest setting (500-550°F / 260-290°C) for at least 30-60 minutes. Meanwhile, cook the hot Italian sausage in a skillet until browned, breaking it into crumbles. Drain any excess fat and set aside.
- Stretch the Dough: Lightly flour a clean surface or your pizza peel. Gently stretch the pizza dough into a 12-14 inch round or oval, ensuring even thickness.
- Build the Pizza: Carefully transfer the stretched dough to your floured pizza peel. Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a 1-inch border. Distribute the cooked sausage, then sprinkle with mozzarella (if using), and finally the crumbled feta cheese.
- Bake the Pizza: Slide the pizza from the peel onto the preheated pizza stone or steel. Bake for 8-12 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly and slightly browned.
- Drizzle & Serve: Remove the pizza from the oven and transfer to a cutting board. Immediately drizzle generously with honey and scatter the fresh basil leaves over the top. Let rest for 2-3 minutes before slicing and serving.
