Ingredients

  • For the Tilapia:
  • 1 lb tilapia fillets, fresh or frozen (thawed)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp ground cumin
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp smoked paprika
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • For the Creamy Sauce:
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise (or Greek yogurt)
  • 1 tbsp fresh lime juice
  • 1 tsp hot sauce (e.g., Sriracha, Cholula), or to taste
  • 1/4 tsp ground cumin
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • Pinch of salt
  • For the Slaw:
  • 2 cups shredded cabbage (green and/or red)
  • 1/4 cup finely diced red onion
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1 tbsp fresh lime juice
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • For Assembly:
  • 812 small corn or flour tortillas
  • Lime wedges, for serving
  • Optional toppings: crumbled cotija cheese, sliced avocado, extra cilantro

Instructions

  • 1. Prepare Slaw and Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together all creamy sauce ingredients. Cover and refrigerate. In a large bowl, combine shredded cabbage, red onion, and cilantro. Whisk lime juice, olive oil, salt, and pepper for the slaw dressing; pour over vegetables and toss. Set aside.
  • 2. Season Tilapia: Pat tilapia fillets dry. In a shallow dish, mix chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Dredge each fillet in the seasoning, coating evenly.
  • 3. Cook Fish: Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a large non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Add tilapia fillets (in batches if needed) and cook for 3-4 minutes per side, until golden brown and flaky. Transfer to a plate and gently flake into bite-sized pieces.
  • 4. Warm Tortillas: Warm tortillas in a dry skillet, microwave, or oven until pliable and soft.
  • 5. Assemble Tacos: Spread creamy sauce on warm tortillas. Top with flaked tilapia, then a generous scoop of slaw. Garnish with lime wedges and optional toppings. Serve immediately.
