Ingredients
- 1 bag (28-32 oz) frozen crinkle-cut or steak fries
- For the Vegan Cheese Sauce:
- 1 large potato (about 8 oz), peeled and diced
- 1 medium carrot (about 4 oz), peeled and diced
- 1/2 cup unsweetened, unflavored plant-based milk (almond, soy, or oat)
- 1/2 cup nutritional yeast
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1/4 tsp turmeric (for color, optional)
- 1/2 tsp salt, or to taste
- Pinch of black pepper
- For Toppings (optional):
- 1/4 cup vegan bacon bits
- 2 green onions, thinly sliced
- 1/4 cup diced fresh or pickled jalapeños
- 1/4 cup diced tomatoes
- Fresh cilantro, chopped
- Vegan sour cream or ranch for drizzling
Instructions
- 1. Bake the Fries: Preheat oven to 400-425°F (200-220°C) according to package directions. Spread fries in a single layer on a baking sheet. Bake for 20-30 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden and crispy.
- 2. Make the Cheese Sauce: While fries bake, boil diced potato and carrot in water until very tender (10-15 mins). Drain well. Transfer to a high-speed blender with plant milk, nutritional yeast, garlic powder, onion powder, turmeric, salt, and pepper. Blend until completely smooth and creamy. Adjust consistency with more plant milk if needed.
- 3. Assemble: Transfer hot, crispy fries to a serving platter. Drizzle generously with warm vegan cheese sauce. Sprinkle with desired toppings like vegan bacon bits, green onions, jalapeños, and tomatoes. Serve immediately.
