Ingredients
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 lb ground pork, chicken, or beef
- 1 large onion, diced
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 2 tsp Italian seasoning, divided
- ½ tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
- 28 oz can crushed tomatoes
- 6 oz can tomato paste
- 15 oz container ricotta cheese, well-drained
- 1 large egg
- 24–30 frozen potstickers or gyoza (pork & vegetable, chicken & vegetable, or vegetable)
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese, divided
- Fresh basil or parsley, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Step 1: Prepare Meat Sauce. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground meat and cook, breaking it up, until browned. Drain excess fat. Add diced onion and cook until softened, 5-7 minutes. Stir in minced garlic, 1 tsp Italian seasoning, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
- Step 2: Simmer Tomato Sauce. Stir in crushed tomatoes and tomato paste. Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat to low and let it cook for at least 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, to allow flavors to meld and sauce to thicken slightly.
- Step 3: Make Ricotta Mixture. While sauce simmers, in a medium bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, remaining 1 tsp Italian seasoning, a pinch of salt, and black pepper. Mix well.
- Step 4: Assemble Lasagna. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Spread about 1 cup of meat sauce on the bottom of a 9×13 inch baking dish. Arrange half of the frozen dumplings in a single layer over the sauce. Spoon half of the ricotta mixture over the dumplings, then sprinkle with 1 cup mozzarella and ¼ cup Parmesan. Repeat layers: remaining meat sauce, remaining dumplings, remaining ricotta, and finally, the remaining 1 cup mozzarella and ¼ cup Parmesan.
- Step 5: Bake. Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil. Bake for 30 minutes. Remove foil and continue baking for another 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly, golden brown, and the edges are slightly crispy.
- Step 6: Rest and Serve. Let the lasagna rest for 15-20 minutes before slicing and serving. Garnish with fresh basil or parsley, if desired.
