Ingredients
- 1 fresh baguette, about 12–15 inches long
- 3 tablespoons olive oil, divided
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- 1 lb sirloin, flank, or flat iron steak
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon lemon zest
- 2 tablespoons fresh chives, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, finely chopped
- Pinch of red pepper flakes (optional)
- Additional fresh chives or parsley, for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Slice baguette into ½-inch thick rounds.
- In a small bowl, whisk 2 tablespoons olive oil with minced garlic, salt, and pepper. Brush both sides of baguette slices. Arrange on a baking sheet and bake for 8-12 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden and crisp. Let cool.
- Pat steak dry. Season generously with salt and pepper. Heat remaining 1 tablespoon olive oil in a heavy-bottomed skillet over medium-high heat until smoking. Sear steak for 2-4 minutes per side for medium-rare. Remove and let rest for 5-10 minutes.
- While steak rests, combine softened cream cheese, lemon juice, lemon zest, chopped chives, parsley, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using) in a bowl. Mix until creamy.
- Slice rested steak thinly against the grain.
- Spread herb cream cheese onto each crostini. Top with steak slices.
- Garnish with additional fresh chives or parsley. Serve immediately.
