Ingredients
- 8 all-beef hot dogs
- 8 hot dog buns (brioche or potato recommended)
- 2 tbsp olive oil (for pan-frying, optional)
- Sliced green onions, for garnish
- Sesame seeds, for garnish
- For the Firecracker Sauce:
- 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2–4 tbsp sriracha (adjust to taste)
- 1–2 tsp red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)
- 1 tsp garlic powder
Instructions
- Step 1: Prepare Hot Dogs. Using a sharp knife, make shallow diagonal cuts (about 1/4 inch deep, 1/2 inch apart) along both sides of each hot dog to create a crosshatch pattern. Pat dry with paper towels.
- Step 2: Make Firecracker Sauce. In a medium saucepan, combine brown sugar, honey, apple cider vinegar, soy sauce, sriracha, red pepper flakes, and garlic powder. Whisk well. Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat, stirring until sugar dissolves and sauce slightly thickens (5-7 minutes). Remove from heat.
- Step 3: Cook Hot Dogs.
- Grill: Preheat grill to medium-high. Lightly oil grates. Grill hot dogs for 5-7 minutes, turning, until charred and plump. During the last 2 minutes, brush generously with sauce, turning to coat.
- Pan-Fry: Heat 1 tbsp oil in a large skillet over medium-high. Cook hot dogs for 7-10 minutes, turning, until browned. Reduce heat to medium-low, pour sauce over, and simmer for 1-2 minutes, tossing to coat.
- Step 4: Assemble. Lightly toast hot dog buns. Place a cooked, sauced hot dog in each bun. Drizzle with any remaining sauce. Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds. Serve immediately.
