Unleash an explosion of flavor with these easy-to-make spicy Firecracker Hot Dogs. Perfectly grilled and coated in a sweet, tangy, and fiery sauce, they’re sure to be a crowd-pleaser.

Ingredients

  • 8 all-beef hot dogs
  • 8 hot dog buns (brioche or potato recommended)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil (for pan-frying, optional)
  • Sliced green onions, for garnish
  • Sesame seeds, for garnish
  • For the Firecracker Sauce:
  • 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 24 tbsp sriracha (adjust to taste)
  • 12 tsp red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder

Instructions

  • Step 1: Prepare Hot Dogs. Using a sharp knife, make shallow diagonal cuts (about 1/4 inch deep, 1/2 inch apart) along both sides of each hot dog to create a crosshatch pattern. Pat dry with paper towels.
  • Step 2: Make Firecracker Sauce. In a medium saucepan, combine brown sugar, honey, apple cider vinegar, soy sauce, sriracha, red pepper flakes, and garlic powder. Whisk well. Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat, stirring until sugar dissolves and sauce slightly thickens (5-7 minutes). Remove from heat.
  • Step 3: Cook Hot Dogs.
    • Grill: Preheat grill to medium-high. Lightly oil grates. Grill hot dogs for 5-7 minutes, turning, until charred and plump. During the last 2 minutes, brush generously with sauce, turning to coat.
    • Pan-Fry: Heat 1 tbsp oil in a large skillet over medium-high. Cook hot dogs for 7-10 minutes, turning, until browned. Reduce heat to medium-low, pour sauce over, and simmer for 1-2 minutes, tossing to coat.
  • Step 4: Assemble. Lightly toast hot dog buns. Place a cooked, sauced hot dog in each bun. Drizzle with any remaining sauce. Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds. Serve immediately.
