Ingredients
- 8 all-beef hot dogs
- 8 brioche hot dog buns
- 1/2 cup Sriracha
- 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon sesame oil
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (for cooking, optional)
- 2 green onions, thinly sliced (for garnish, optional)
- 1 teaspoon sesame seeds (for garnish, optional)
Instructions
- 1. Prepare the Hot Dogs: Using a sharp knife, score each hot dog diagonally about 1/4 inch deep, spaced 1/2 inch apart, on both sides to create a crisscross pattern.
- 2. Make the Firecracker Glaze: In a small bowl, whisk together Sriracha, honey (or maple syrup), soy sauce, rice vinegar, garlic powder, and sesame oil until well combined.
- 3. Cook the Hot Dogs: Heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a large skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat, or preheat your grill. Add the scored hot dogs and cook, turning occasionally, until nicely browned and starting to crisp, about 5-7 minutes.
- 4. Glaze and Caramelize: Reduce heat to medium-low (if using a skillet). Pour half of the firecracker glaze over the hot dogs, tossing to coat. Cook for 3-5 minutes, turning frequently, until the glaze thickens and caramelizes. Add the remaining glaze and cook for another 2-3 minutes until fully coated and sticky.
- 5. Toast the Buns and Assemble: Lightly butter the inside of the brioche buns and toast them in a separate pan or on the grill until golden brown. Place a glazed hot dog into each toasted bun.
- 6. Garnish and Serve: Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds, if desired. Serve immediately and enjoy your spicy Firecracker Hot Dogs!
