Ingredients
- 1 baguette or small ciabatta loaf, sliced into 1/2-inch rounds
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 lb fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
- 1–2 tbsp granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
- Pinch of salt
- 1/2 cup balsamic vinegar (for homemade glaze) OR 2-3 tbsp store-bought balsamic glaze
- 1/4 cup fresh basil, finely chopped
- Optional: 2-3 tbsp softened cream cheese or mascarpone
Instructions
- Prepare Strawberries: In a medium bowl, combine sliced strawberries, granulated sugar, and a pinch of salt. Gently toss and let macerate for 15-20 minutes.
- Toast Bread: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush both sides of bread slices with olive oil. Arrange on a baking sheet and bake for 5-7 minutes per side, until golden and crisp.
- Make Balsamic Glaze: If making homemade, simmer balsamic vinegar in a small saucepan over low heat until reduced by half and thickened (10-15 minutes). Let cool.
- Assemble: If using, spread a thin layer of cream cheese or mascarpone on each toasted bread slice. Top generously with macerated strawberries.
- Finish: Drizzle with balsamic glaze and garnish with fresh basil. Serve immediately.
